HOUSE SYSTEM IN JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYAS

In order to inculcate and develop the leadership qualities and for the effective management of various activities,  House System is followed in  Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas,  The effective management  of a residential school depends upon the quality of the House system that functioning in a school. A House consists of group of children effectively led by responsible teacher (House Master) who acts as a parent, guide, philosopher, and friend for every member of the House. A House inherently provides a family atmosphere in making the child physically fit, socially adjusted, emotionally balanced, and morally upright.

OBJECTIVES OF ADOPTING HOUSE SYSTEM IN JNVs

1.  To create a home away from home
2. To develop leadership qualities.
3. To develop healthy competitive spirit among the Children.
4. To develop the qualities of self respect, respect to others, self confidence, sense of belongingness, self discipline etc.
5.  Learn to live and let live.
6.  To inculcate moral values.

FORMATION OF HOUSES:

As per NVS guide lines, for administrative purpose, a two-tier system of House is functioning  in  Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas that is - Junior House for Classes VI to VIII and Senior House for Classes IX to XII. In a full-fledged Vidyalaya, there will be four junior houses, four senior houses, and two houses for girls (one from classes VI to VIII and another from classes IX to XII).Therefore, there will be eight House Masters for boys and two for girls. Similarly there will be eight Associate House Masters for Boys and Two for girls.

Further, for conducting various curricular and co curricular activities in the Vidyalaya, the total students of the Vidyalaya are divided in to four Houses assigning four colours namely ARAVALLY (BLUE), NILGIRI (GREEN), SHIVALIK (RED) and UDAIGIRI (YELLOW). Though all the girls are placed under two Houses (Junior and Senior) for effective supervision and management, for the conduct of Inter House activities, each group of girls of a Junior House is linked with a Junior House (boys) of the same House and similarly each group of girls of Senior House is linked with the corresponding Senior House (boys).

When a child is admitted to the Vidyalaya, he/she is allotted a house on the same day of admission and he/she will continue in the same house till he/she completes class XII and passes out of Vidyalaya.
