Admission to JNVs are made at 3 levels ie at Class VI, Class IX and Class XI.


          Admission to class VI is made through a selection test called Jawahar Navodaya Selection Test (JNST) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Applications are invited by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti every year for the said test. Only the candidates from the district concerned where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has been opened are elifible to apply for admission. Similarly a candidate appearing for the selection test must be studying in class V in the whole academic year in a Government/government aided or recognised shcool of the district concerned. The JNVST for class VI will be of two hour duration without any break which consists of only objective type questions. There will be 100 questions related to Mental Ability, Arithmetic and Language of one mark each.  

          The eligible candidates can submit the application forms in the prescribed application forms which are available along with prospectus at free of cost from the Block Education Officer, District Eduation Officer, Head Master of any Govt/ Govt. aided / NIOS where he/she is studying. Duly filled in application are to be submitted to the Block Education Officer concerned before the due date as per notification.

          At least 75% of the seats in a district are filled by the candidates from rural area and the remaining seats are filled by the urban candidates. The Rural or Urban Category is based on the location of the school in which the child is studying. Reservation for SC and STs are as per govt. norms. One third of the total seats are filled up by the girls students. There is provision for reservation of 3% seats for disabled children. Mere selection in the test will not vest any right on the candidates to secure admission in to the JNV.  A maximum of 80 students are admitted through the JNVST to class VI every year as per scheme.


          With the aim of utilising the infrastructure and other facilities at the maximum possible manner, admission is also done at class IX level in those JNVs where the vacant seats are available through a selection test called Lateral Entry Test - Class IX base on the syllabus of class VIII. The test will be objective/descriptive type with 03 hours duration without any break. The Prospectus-cum-Application form containing detailed instructions for this test can be obtained free of cost from the Office of Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and office of District and Block Education Officers of the District.  Application forms can also be downloaded from the  website  Duly filled in application to be submitted to the office of Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of the district in which the candidate is studying is class VIII when it is notified.


          Similarly, available vacant seats at class XI are also filled on the basis of merit. If seats are vacant in a particular JNV of a district even after admiting the students who have studied and qualified from the same JNV and minimigrated students from other JNVs, the other students of the district will be given the opportunity  to get admitted on merit basis.
